Hot stone massage is becoming a very popular modern treatment. Although the use of hot stones is an ancient therapy. During our hot stone massage treatment, we use heated basalt stones which penetrate deep into the muscle tissue, easing the body’s tension and increasing blood circulation. The heat from the stones makes the massage truly relaxing and will leave you feeling revitalised.

5000 years ago was the earliest recorded use of a hot stone therapy. This is known to have taken place in India as part of an Indian holistic tradition known as "Ayurveda". They would gather smooth stones from their local rivers and then use them either hot or cold to improve health. We also have confirmation on Chinese history that they also used heated stones about 2000 years ago. They used shaped stones which were called "Bian". They burned Mugwort to treat disease and put the hot stones on the abdomen to help improve digestion. Natives of Hawaii discovered that if they wrapped the warm lava rocks in leaves then apply to areas of the body it could give pain relief. The Native Americans also used hot stones, but they didn't apply them to the body. They figured out that the heat from the stones would ease tense muscles and helped with whole body relaxations, imagine our saunas that we use today. In south and central America "Curanderas" which translates in Spanish to "Healers", would use heated stones to help ease the pain of menstruation. They would also use cold stones to slow down the bleeding after labour.
Reduces anxiety and stress - Studies have been taken out and shown that hot stone massage reduces stress, anxiety and can improve cardiovascular health.
Pain relief - Hot stone massage has been associated with relieving pain and improving the range of motion for a variety of conditions, such as autoimmune disorders, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Decreased muscle spasms and tensions - Hot stone massage can reduce inflammation and tensions around the skeletal muscles which in turn reduces the muscles to spasm
Better sleep - Hot stone massage can help promote relaxation which in turn helps the body to release stress so you find it easier to sleep.
Increased joint flexibility - Tensions in the muscles make it difficult and painful to move the joints. Where the heat penetrates the muscles it releases the tension which makes the muscle become more loose so they're then more flexible.
