As the name suggests the origins of a Swedish Massage can be traced all the way back to Sweden in the 18th century. It was developed by a Swedish gymnast and physician called Per Henrik Ling. Mr Ling focused on adding traditional chinese medicine and gymnastics techniques, this was to improve not only physical health but mental health too. Over the years these original techniques have evolved into what we now practice as Swedish Massage.
Stress reduction - The relaxation that is induced from the long slow effleurage movements your cortisol levels go down and your endorphin levels rise.
Pain relief - From various types of pain, including headaches, chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and muscle tensions. Techniques including friction and kneading work together to release knots and trigger areas which then alleviate the discomfort.
Better flexibility - Having regular massage sessions helps to improve your flexibility and joint mobility. The kneading and stretching techniques help the muscles let go of their built up tension, which then allows for a wider range of motion.
Better sleep - By relaxing the muscles and alleviating stress in the body, clients have found they have a better nights sleep with less disturbances and a more restful nights sleep.
Elevation in your mood - Again all thanks to the reduction of the stress hormone and a release of endorphins, your mood improves and leaves you feeling happier and lighter.
